Jag’s Birth: A Beautiful, Natural VBAC (Vaginal Birth After Cesarean)

Our first pregnancy with our 6 year old daughter resulted in a planned cesarean at 37 weeks due to her breech position. Young and naïve, we went along with the doctor’s decisions, even though my gut told me otherwise. The result was a healthy daughter, though I left the hospital feeling as if I was in a “cloud”. Healing seemed to take forever, and I felt like I was cheated out of the entire birthing process having never experienced real labor.

When I was 29 weeks pregnant with our son, my husband and I faced an unfathomable decision: to either find different OB care, or research other options for our birthing needs.

Family after birth

After some research, we found the San Antonio Birth Center. They were a Godsend. My midwife team was compassionate, caring, timely, and intelligent. Every appointment felt like we were old friends sharing advice, gathering encouragement, and educating our daughter about the birthing process during numerous “teachable moments”.

My labor was extremely tiresome, though beyond rewarding and fulfilling. My VBAC itself was beautiful. Our daughter witnessed her brother entering this world. The San Antonio Birth Center staff made critical decisions following the birth that I believe would have resulted in increased medical intervention had we been in a hospital.

My husband, daughter, son, and I have a life-long bond with the San Antonio Birth Center midwives. I not only found this extreme strength that I never knew existed, but gained the forever love and support from cherished new friendship.
