Alisa Voss Godfrey

Owner | Director | Midwife | Preceptor

Alisa has been with women and families during pregnancy and birth for over 25 years. After completing a formal midwifery apprenticeship and academic program in 1993, she worked in many capacities – owning her own home-birth practices, as a partner in a group home-birth practice, and as a staff midwife at this very birth center.

In October 2009, she became the owner and director of the San Antonio Birth Center (the “oldest” free-standing birth center in SA), and Alisa has dedicated the past 10+ years to honing our unique practice style and providing out-of-hospital birthing experience to birthing families in her community.

Alisa’s work is her life’s passion and her warmth is contagious. She brings compassion and wisdom to each client visit and honors each unique birth experience, finding great joy in working with the beautifully diverse families that come into her life.  In the fall of 2016, Alisa was honored to attend her 1,000th birth.

When she married her best friend Paul in the Summer of 2012, Alisa became the “half-mom” to four amazing young people. After over 20 years of wanting to experience birth for herself, Alisa and her husband were transformed in ways they never could have planned through the intensely primal and profound home birth of their daughter in 2014 and again through the joy-filled hospital birth of their son in 2016!

Alisa’s greatest passion – outside of motherhood – is traveling to and serving with an organization called MamaBaby Haiti.

Cindy Lockhart

Cindy Lockhart

Staff Midwife | Preceptor

Cindy attended her first midwifery course in 1990 (just five weeks after the birth of her first child) and completed her midwifery education in Austin in 1994. She has supported families through pregnancy and birth as both a doula and a midwife in homes, hospitals, and birth centers.

Mother to six (born-at-home) children, she stepped back from midwifery after the birth of her youngest, in 2001, to focus on the needs of her growing family. She has continued to expand her knowledge of wellness care through the study of nutrition, homeopathy, and massage therapy. Cindy is a licensed massage therapist and holds advanced certification in prenatal, birth, and infant massage. With the encouragement of her children, she returned to midwifery in 2011 and was delighted to join the team at San Antonio Birth Center in April of 2014.

Cindy considers herself to be a collector of experiences, and no experience is more real or purer than the moment a family is born. She believes that the real gift of midwifery is the opportunity to build a relationship with women, their partners, and their families. She strives to learn each woman’s unique communication style and needs and to work in partnership with her throughout her birthing experience.

As a visionary and project person, Cindy almost always has a home improvement project in the works, but her all time favorite pass time is being Gran to her 2 precious grand-babies!

Naomi felt called to midwifery at an early age. After attending her first birth over 25 years ago, she soon became the unofficial “birth expert” among her peers. Naomi tucked her dreams of midwifery away for a season to care for her growing family.

For many years Naomi was a photographer, specializing in birth, maternity, adoption, and family lifestyle photography.  When she and her family relocated to Texas from Colorado in February 2014, she knew it was time to chase her dream of becoming a midwife and began her clinical apprenticeship at the San Antonio Birth Center in March 2015.

In March of 2018 she transitioned from a senior apprentice to a staff midwife upon receiving her Texas state midwifery license.  With steadfast gentleness and always exuding kindness, we could not envision our practice without her.

Naomi has been married to her best friend Ryan for 22 years, and they have 4 amazing kids ages. Their first 3 children were natural hospital births and their 4th joined the family through the beauty of adoption. As a family, they are enjoying all that Texas has to offer as their favorite pass time is just being together: outside, hiking, biking, kayaking, tubing, jumping waves and drinking  coffee.  When off call Naomi enjoys traveling and serving families, women, babies, and midwives in Haiti with MamaBaby Haiti.

Heather Randolph

Staff Midwife | Preceptor

Heather’s start into working with birthing families began when she was pregnant with her third baby.  She began to question her current model of care and discovered that women were still having babies with midwives. The home birth of her daughter confirmed that her natural instincts to care for others had led her to midwifery.

And so, her journey began in 2009 with working as a doula and becoming Lamaze Childbirth Educator. From 2012-2016 she apprenticed, studied and grew into the midwife she is today. When her family relocated from Wisconsin to Texas, Heather joined our staff in 2015 as an apprentice midwife to complete her clinical training.  Heather graduated from Midwives College of Utah, became licensed in the state of Texas and certified through NARM, AND was promoted to Staff Midwife – all in 2017!

In 2006 Heather married her high school sweetheart Eric and together they raise their 4 children and enjoy rugged outdoor adventures as well as mud, gardening, roller coasters, and river life.

Phoebe has been apart of the San Antonio Birth Center clinical staff since July 2018 when she started her clinical journey with us as an apprentice midwife.  Currently pursing a Bachelors in Midwifery thorough Midwives College of Utah, her keen ability to absorb academic knowledge is serving her well.

She is married to her husband Nick, and they share a similar passion of maternal healthcare, as Nick is starting his residency in Ob/Gyn in July 2020.  They do not have any children yet, as they are currently navigating the unknown of infertility and undergoing IVF. While this has been a difficult, it has allowed Phoebe to bring a special degree of care and comfort to all of our clients, and she shares a special bond with those who have undergone infertility struggles.

When life allows, Phoebe enjoys spending time in Newfoundland where her family is from, traveling, and spending time with her family and 2 cats, Ralph and Carl.

Amber Gaddy

Apprentice Midwife | Educator

We welcomed Amber to our Administrative Team in November of 2016, and in the Fall of 2018 she began transitioning to a new role as an apprentice midwife and childbirth educator.

She brings to all of her work here at the San Antonio Birth Center a truly unique perspective – that of a former client, a former community birth worker, a former administrative staff member, and now a member of our clinical team as she pursues her Bachelors Degree in Midwifery and fulfills her clinical requirements here with our practice.

Amber met her husband in 2005 and they married in 2012. In 2015 they welcomed a daughter – who was born at home under the loving guidance of the San Antonio Birth Center midwives, and in 2019 welcome a son, born at our birth center, again with the midwives she has grown to love.

Through her 5 years of doula work and personal journey into mothering, she has cultivated a passion for nurturing and empowering women to be educated about birthing options.

In her down time, Amber loves to spend time with her husband and kiddos and diving deeper into her love of books.

Kayla grew up hearing stories of home birth and midwifery from her grandmother. Her great grandmother was a traditional midwife, or partera, in the 30’s and 40’s and delivered many of Kayla’s family members around the Alice,TX area.
After graduating high school in South Texas, Kayla moved to San Antonio in 2013 to pursue her bachelor’s degree in Psychology at the UTSA and quickly fell in love with the city. In 2015, she and her husband decided to start their family and began researching birthing options. They were immediately drawn to the San Antonio Birth Center and she gave birth to her first child in our Mary Belle suite later that year. Her birthing experience and desire to serve the community led her to become a birth doula.
In 2018, Kayla became pregnant again and returned to the San Antonio Birth Center with plans for a home birth. It was during this time that she realized her true passion was in the service of pregnant and birthing women. With the loving support of her family, she left her master’s program in counseling to begin midwifery school. In the summer of 2019 she began her clinical apprenticeship here with us at SABC.

When she’s away from the birth center, her time is filled raising her young children, connecting with her loved ones, listening to musicals, and exploring different recipes and baking techniques.

Administrative and Support Staff

Scheduling appointments, answering insurance and billing questions, assisting with payment plans, inventory and ordering, laundry and cleaning… there are so many details that go into keeping the facility and our practice running smoothly. We could not do what we do and serve our clients in the ways that let them know we care if it weren’t for the tender and loving attention to details that these women provide to us and to all of our families. The San Antonio Birth Center is a better place because of these lovely human beings!

Jessica Gomez

Office Manager

Jessica Gomez

Office Manager

Jessica began developing her delegation and organizational skills at a young age – growing up as the second oldest of 9 siblings (many of whom were born at home with midwives!).  Her delightful communication style served her well in her former career as a hair stylist, and her attention to detail was honed while working with several local non profit ministries.

We joyfully welcomed Jessica to the San Antonio Birth Center Sisterhood in the summer of 2018 and she quickly made herself irreplaceable!  She has a passion for serving others, truly loves people, and is an amazing multi-tasker!

As the mom to 2 active kiddos, she doesn’t get much free time, but when she does she enjoys DIY projects, hiking, missionary work, and Coke Zero.

Bella Garcia

Administrative Assistant

Bella Garcia

Administrative Assistant

Bella’s journey with midwifery began when she was 4 years old as she participated in her mother’s pregnancy and preparations for birth.  Alisa was her mother’s midwife and they both have fond memories of being together during midwife visits.  Though she was not present at that brother’s home birth, a few years later (in 2010 and 2012) she witnessed her mother birth 2 additional siblings in the comfort of her own home, assisted by Alisa.

Fast forward several years and Bella began an internship with us at the San Antonio Birth Center during her junior and senior years of high school as part of a class called Independent Study Mentorship.  Though projects about midwifery, shadowing the staff, and writing parenting class curriculum, she discovered a love for midwifery.

After completing a doula training course in January 2019, Bella began attending births in an active support role, and she continues to take on private doula clients.  After graduating from high school she joined our administrative team (a job she says she loves!) and now all of our clients get to experience her vibrance and joy.

As the new decade began, Bella began her academic journey toward becoming a midwife, and all of her free time is spent studying and attending classes through the Midwives College of Utah.  We are delighted that she plans on transitioning to our clinical team sometime in mid 2021, at which time she hopes to complete her apprenticeship here with us.
